Twenty-three new projects across the Nordic and Arctic region have been awarded a combined DKK 10.3 million through the Nordic Arctic Programme, supporting initiatives that strengthen resilient communities, sustainable development and cross-border cooperation throughout the Arctic.

Main NAPA funding

Administered by NAPA – the Nordic Institute in Greenland on behalf of the Nordic Council of Ministers, the programme supports projects that bring together partners from across the Nordic countries to address some of the Arctic's most pressing social, economic and environmental challenges. The programme places particular emphasis on locally rooted collaboration, innovation and long-term resilience in Arctic communities.

The funded projects cover a broad range of themes, including Indigenous knowledge, education, culture, sustainable livelihoods, community development, digital connectivity, climate adaptation and environmental resilience. Together, they reflect the growing importance of Nordic cooperation in addressing shared challenges while creating new opportunities for Arctic communities.

The Nordic Arctic Programme 2025–2027 aims to contribute to attractive and socially viable Arctic communities, support sustainable economic growth, and promote the green transition across the region. By encouraging partnerships between organisations in at least three Nordic countries, the programme helps strengthen knowledge exchange and collaboration throughout the Arctic.

Among this year's successful recipients is the Arctic Foundation, which has been awarded funding through the programme for its project “Women´s Living Memory: Culture, Identity and Mental Health in the Arctic”. The project will be led by Professor Joanna Kodzik in collaboration with Halldór Jóhannsson and outreach expert Fanney Ingvadóttir.

Arctic Foundation

The Arctic Foundation, which operates Arctic Portal, is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting sustainable development and international cooperation across the Arctic. Based in Iceland, the Foundation works to advance education, scientific research, data management, environmental stewardship, cultural preservation and innovation by developing and supporting projects that benefit Arctic communities. Through Arctic Portal and its many collaborative initiatives, the Foundation provides a trusted platform for sharing knowledge, leading and hosting international projects and connecting researchers, Indigenous organizations, policymakers and other Arctic stakeholders.

The grant awarded through the Nordic Arctic Programme will further strengthen the Foundation's mission of fostering collaboration, increasing knowledge and the development and promotion of sustainable solutions for the circumpolar North.
